Alienware 15 Design and Features
The mark of Alienware 15 makes is a fine combination of aluminum and carbon fiber in its construction. The former covers the entire top surface of the lid, while the latter remains concealed in its machine’s construction, under a coating of attractive soft-touch black, enveloping the entire outside.
Combined with fine sharp angles, subtle lighting and minimalist design, this laptop brings with it a sense of quality as well as class, in spite of its apparently sci-fi gaming style. It boasts of a whole host of lights, if you like. The keyboard is of course backlit with the trackpad glowing softly. Everyone of these features are regulated independently by means of the Alienware software that let you change them individually, to any color you like, or fully turned off completely.
Alienware 15 comes with a display of 1920 x 1080 resolution, although there is the option for an upgraded to 3860 x 2146, 4 K touchscreen panel. The colors are vibrant and precise, maximum brightness aplenty and black levels are superb, making it good on the whole. The audio system with its speakers imparts a lot of clarity and volume, excellent high-end detail as well as mid-range warmth, although the bass is lacking in depth. In gaming laptops battery life is always a matter of concern, but with Alienware 15 it lasts around 5 hours, not the industry standard of course, but still sufficient.
Alienware 15 is equipped with the Intel Core i5-4210H processor, 8GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 965M graphics card, as well as a 1TB hard drive. For a higher price, you can buy the higher model that boasts of the Intel Core i7-4710HQ, 128 GB SSD together with 1TB of HDD, and Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M. There is a still higher model with top specs that replaces the Nvidia card, with an AMD Radeon HD R9 295X.
As to external connections, the laptop comes with two USB 3.0 ports along the right edge, an SD card reader and Ethernet socket. Two more USB 3.0 ports can be found along the left edge, adjacent to the mic and headphone jacks, and a Kensington lock slot, while there is a mini DisplayPort, full size HDMI, as well as Graphics Amplifier port. Besides, it has Killer wireless networking, and Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, the choice is yours.
